It's a movie from the 80s about a group of high school boys trying to lose their virginity. It’s cheeky, crass, and brimming with teenage hormones. It was degrading as hell and paved the way for Kim Cattrall to breathe life into Samantha Jones seventeen years later.
Porky’s was also funny as AF, and it spoke to the teenage male experience in a relatable and entertaining way. Of course, it would never fly today, given its blatant objectification of women and strong sexual overtones, but it was an important movie for its time. Inevitably, it sparked a series of imitations that flooded the market in the late 80s-early 90s.
But this piece is not about that.
Lately, I have been thinking about how the male experience centers on the act of sex without the need to develop sexual skills.
