99% of the time (this is a totally made-up statistic, BTW) when we say “be honest,” we really mean—don’t lie.
Sometimes we mean don’t disagree, disappoint, or make me see you differently. Am I right?
Honesty is a lot more nuanced than we make it out to be, especially in relationships.
We want the truth, the whole truth, but sometimes not the truth.
There is the truth we tell. Which is often different from the truth we live.
Be direct, but not too direct.
Communicate clearly, but don’t hurt my feelings.
Give it to me straight, but pad the landing.
This shit is confusing!
In this week’s episode, I’m talking about how we deceive ourselves into believing we want the truth, and how we punish people for giving it to us.
